30.11.2012: Today is our last day of fieldwork, and twelve years of investigations in the Piraeus are coming to an end. Archaeology is a team-sport, and I am proud to say that the Zea Harbour Project has an extremely experienced and professional crew; the project would not have been the same without this ‘dream team’. I wish to thank everybody who has worked on the project over the years – all of
you who have been a part of this great journey are tagged in this photo taken by senior staff archaeologist Vassilis Tsiairis earlier this week of our most important discovery - the late sixth/early fifth century BC shipsheds. Imagine that in this very ‘space’ to the right of the diver (Andrzej Święch) stood one of the triremes that probably fought in the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC – these warships and their naval bases were the very back-bone of the young Athenian democracy.

Πρόγραμμα εξερεύνησης βυθού του λιμανιού της Ζέας
Σήμερα είναι η τελευταία μας ημέρα των προσπαθειών δώδεκα χρόνων, στις υποθαλάσσιε έρευνες στον Πειραιά και την Ζέα. το πλησιάζουν στο τέλος.
Ο συγκεκριμένος δύτης ευχαριστεί όλους όσους βοήθησαν στην μεγάλη αυτή εξερεύνηση και το επικεφαλής της Ελληνικής Αρχαιολογικής Βασίλης Tσιάρη.
Στην φωτογραφία ο δύτης Andrzej Święch), είναι στον χώρο που βρίσκεται μια Αθηναϊκή τριήρης. Ίσως μία από αυτές που μπορεί να έλαβε μέρος στην Ναυμαχία της Σαλαμίνας.
Ήταν το μοναδικό εύρημα που έχουμε καταγράψει.
Από το 6ο αιώνα πΧ... το σπουδαιότερο και ταχύτερο πλοίο για τουλάχιστον 10 αιώνες.
